Every summer Thomson-Reuters trots out a new version of EndNote. This year sees the appearance of EndNote X6 for Windows, with the Mac version to follow in the fall. So, should you upgrade your current copy to X6? Or, if you’re thinking of buying EndNote for the first time, should you get X5 or X6? Sometimes the first release of updated software is often a little buggy, so you might want to stick with X5 or wait a while before getting X6.
Two great new features of X6 are: (1) the ability to display PDFs in a separate window, making it easier to view and annotate them, and; (2) the direct export of records from the PubMed database, removing several steps you currently have to follow when downloading records from PubMed into your EndNote library. And some good news for iPad users. An EndNote app for the iPad is due for release in the fall.
