Create New Records from PDF files in EndNote Version X4

The latest EndNote release, version X4, expands its support for the management of PDFs by allowing you to create new references directly from PDF files that you have downloaded onto your computer. You can simply use the “Import” function to import the PDF file into your library. Choose PDF from the Import Option drop-down menu.

The basic bibliographic data, also known as meta-data,  (i.e., information such as author, journal, title) is then extracted from the PDF and used to automatically create a reference record.

Note, however, that the completeness of the record can be quite variable, depending on the origin of your PDF and the meta-data attached to it. So if you create EndNote records this way be sure to check that all relevant data has been added to the correct fields.
