The Media@UCSF plug-in empowers course editors and students to create, upload and share video content within the CLE. The plug-in has been updated a few times in 2018, and these updates added new capabilities for inserting quiz questions into videos. A video quiz forces viewers to pause the video, reflect on the content, and test their comprehension. Video quizzes are a great way to break up long videos into more digestible portions, and they add an element of interactivity to an otherwise passive learning process. The tutorial video provided below demonstrations the features of the video quiz. For more information please refer to our online help document, and the vendor’s user guide.
Did you know that you could place any Activity or Resource into Stealth Mode? If you’re not sure what Stealth Mode is, no need to worry, the Learning Tech Group is here to explain!
What is Stealth Mode?
Earlier versions of the CLE allowed activities (or resources) to be hidden inside “extra” weeks or topics, but still be accessible to students. These were known as “orphaned” activities and allowed instructors and course staff to achieve particular designs for their courses.
In January 2018, The CLE was upgraded to Moodle version 3.3 and now you can place any activity or resource into “stealth mode” which is helpful when you would like to link to resources and activities from a page or book but do not want to display the item within the section.
Watch the video below for a brief overview on Stealth Activities and how to use them in your course.
On December 29th, 2017, the CLE received an update. The most noticeable change happened on the dashboard page, which received a new Course Overview block. This updated block brings new functionality to the CLE, but it also prevents students from customizing the order in which their courses are listed. We expect this block to improve in future updates. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! You can use the Recent Courses and Favorite Courses blocks instead. Please review the video below for a demonstration. If you are interested in learning more about other new features in the CLE, please click here. Thank you and good luck!
UCSF Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) is getting an update. The CLE (powered by Moodle) will be upgraded from version 3.2 to 3.3 on December 29, 2017 and will be unavailable from 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM (PT) to complete the upgrade.
Although this upgrade will introduce a few new features which will benefit all CLE users, this post will focus on the most notable change—Course Overview block. We’ll introduce the other new features in our future posts so please stay tuned!
