We’ve been asking for it, and finally we have it. The ability to perform a global, keyword search for courses and content in the CLE is now possible! This is a new feature that became available after we updated the CLE on July 1. A search can be started from any page in the CLE, using the magnifying glass icon that is found on the top-most navigation bar. Results can include courses, course resources and activities, and even text within forum posts.
CLE is now accessible via Moodle mobile app. One of the advantages of using the mobile app is that users can download the course resources on their phone. This allows, for example, a student to download a lecture note at home and read it on her commute without using her mobile data. The app also sends push notifications if enabled in the settings. This means your students can receive your Forum post on their smartphones! Continue reading
The UCSF Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) is getting an update! The CLE (powered by Moodle) will be upgraded from version 2.7 to 3.2 on July 1, 2017. Although we are still working on finalizing some details, we would like to give you a quick heads-up that some exciting new features are coming your way.
Here are some highlights of the most notable updates:
- Global Search—This long-awaited feature is finally with us! With this powerful search tool, you can search everywhere on the CLE that you have access to. A student can search their courses for particular lecture notes, for example, or an instructor could search for subject-related activities.
- Recycle Bin—You no longer need to panic when you accidentally delete something you didn’t mean to. The Recycle Bin allows course instructors and managers to retrieve course elements they have mistakenly deleted. Category Managers can also restore courses.
A new collaboration feature for the Media@UCSF plug-in for the CLE is now available. Transfer ownership of your media to others, add co-editors and co-publishers in the CLE with just a few simple clicks!
What does it do?
You are the owner of the media you upload to the CLE using Media@UCSF plug-in. No one else can manage the media you own unless you add co-editors/co-publishers. This new collaboration feature is helpful when, for example, an instructor wants to allow their co-instructors or TAs to edit the videos they uploaded to the CLE, or when an instructor wishes to share their videos with their colleagues so that they can publish the videos in their CLE courses as well.
Media owners can also transfer media ownership to others. Use cases for this feature include an instructor leaving UCSF or turning over the management of a CLE course to another instructor. NOTE: When you transfer ownership, the original owner will no longer have access to the media. Continue reading
